Catus versus Eymet, 29th May 2022

CATCHES WIN MATCHES.

Well, if there was ever a time to relate to those 3 words, it was last Sunday at Eymet. But first, let’s look at the lead up to the game.

So starting time was brought forward to noon so the guy’s from Toulouse could get home early. At 11.45, Catus cc were represented by Sutton and Ijaz and the Eymet players were wondering, what the hell was going on.

But never fear, the rest of the troops rocked up about 12.15 minus one player. Last minute drop out and 12th man too far from Toulouse to get there on time. So a quick change of clothes, no warm up, Catus hit the field.

Overall, the Catus bowlers bowled quite well but when, an under estimated 15 dropped catches were achieved, 3 off the opening batsman who went on to make 96, what can I say.

In fairness, not all the catches were sitters and a couple were sun related but 15.

Anyway, Eymet went on to bat out their 35 overs and finished on 8 for 227.

We won’t mention teas as there wasn’t any.

So opening batsmen, Ali and Ijaz went about the run chase and did it quite well until both went but at half way through the innings, Catus was slightly more than Eymet at the same time. So, game on, we thought.

Ikram and Zuber made good contribution but the fall of wickets too early made it tough. Once again Catus could only bat 27 overs. Best batsmen for Catus were Ali 21 Ijaz Noor 18 Ikram 27 and Zuber 24.

Catus finished at 9 for 146.

Very disappointing as we were certainly in the game. A mental change towards batting and some serious catching practice can only be a bonus to this team.

Next week we play Bears at Catus. Let’s hope we can learn from our mistakes.

PS Catus did eventually take 2 catches but off no balls. Lol.

Ken Sutton.
